FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before, during, and after booking a passage or course with Ocean Sailing Adventures.

What happens after I submit a reservation request?

You will receive a confirmation email with a secure checkout link. Your spot is held for 3 days while you complete your deposit payment. Once payment is received, your berth is confirmed and we send you the full pre-departure guide.

What is the payment schedule?

A 10% deposit is due at booking to secure your spot. A second payment is due 60 days before departure, and a final payment is due 20 days before departure. All amounts and due dates are shown in your confirmation email and Customer Portal.

What is your refund and cancellation policy?

Your 10% deposit is non-refundable. Once your second or third payment is made you are considered committed to the trip. We maintain a waitlist and will do our best to re-book your spot if you need to cancel, in which case a refund minus the deposit may be issued. See the full Refund & Cancellation Policy.

What experience level do I need?

Passage Training is designed for sailors who have completed basic certification (ASA 101/103 or equivalent) and are ready to move into real offshore experience. You do not need to be an expert — our captains teach as we sail.

How many people are on the boat?

Most passages carry 3 to 5 crew in addition to the captain, depending on the vessel. Cabins are available as private or shared berths. You can select your preference during booking.

What should I bring?

Pack in a soft duffel bag — no hard-shell luggage. Foul-weather gear, non-marking deck shoes, sunscreen, and seasickness medication are recommended. A full packing list is in your confirmation email and on the What to Bring page.

What about seasickness?

Offshore passages involve open-water conditions and some crew do experience motion sickness, especially in the first 24 hours. We recommend consulting your doctor about preventative options (prescription patches, Bonine, or ginger) before departure. Most crew feel fine within a day or two of getting underway.

Do I need to stand night watches?

Yes — offshore sailing is a 24-hour operation. Watch schedules are typically 3 hours on, 6 hours off and are set by the captain before departure. Night watches are one of the most rewarding parts of a passage.

What is the Customer Portal?

Your Customer Portal is a personal dashboard where you can track payment status, view your itinerary, download crew waiver and medical forms, and message us directly. A setup link is included in your confirmation email. You can also access it any time at oceansailingadventures.com/customer/login.

Can Ocean Sailing Adventures cancel a passage?

We reserve the right to cancel any passage due to unforeseen circumstances such as severe weather, vessel issues, or crew emergencies. In that case, you will receive a full refund of all monies paid. We are not responsible for additional expenses you may have incurred in preparing for the trip, so travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Do you recommend travel insurance?

Yes — strongly. Because of the nature of offshore passages, we cannot make refund exceptions for personal emergencies once payments beyond the deposit have been made. Travel insurance protects you in the event of illness, injury, or other emergencies. We recommend comparing policies at InsureMyTrip.com.
